The question on the table is whether or not you are "responding" to him, not whether or not he can read your mind.
I can assure you, he is 100% certain that he's ALWAYS been able to get you to respond to him -- even now -- and he's probably about 80% sure of what you're thinking, too (since you SAY it so much!).
