Barb-I sure could use some umbrella drinks by the pool. Move over! Or maybe something stronger than coffee (I'm on my 4th cup of joe and contemplating another one.) Or maybe I want a new drug after all? 'Cause I think I might be crazy.

I might have told you all that my D16 has taken to volunteering at the Humane Society on Tuesdays after school with her behavioral therapist? They started that in late October. Like a lot of special needs kids, my D16 loves animals. The zoo is probably hands down her favorite place to go, so lots of times we build her compliance around rewards like going to the zoo or to the pet store to see the animals. So I wonder why we were so surprised at how much she loves the HS?

When she goes, they have her wash dishes and fold towels - and apparently, that kind of annoyed her until the lady in charge told her that the animals need fresh dishes and depend on her to have towels available. So she's willing to do the yucky stuff to get to the good stuff. Her therapist has texted me photos of the cats following her around. They call her the cat whisperer, and it makes me laugh. Except that one cat follows her around like crazy and she loves him as much as he loves her. And damn her, because after yesterday's photo, I wrote to the HS to see if I could adopt him. He's a red point Siamese and just beautiful. And he's been there since mid-November so...

...Someone just shoot me. I just hope that Butterfly (my current gato and a fellow Siamese) forgives me. She just turned 11 and here I've been telling people that when she goes I'm going to be a pet free house. Fat chance. At the very least, he's 4 so I don't have to put up with the obnoxious kitty phase. We'll see what the HS has to say about us adopting him. They don't open until 3 today, so I probably won't hear back until later on.

Carry on. Back to the umbrella drinks by the pool or hot toddies by the fire!

Kitties & umbrella drinks! These are a few of my favourite things.

Well - in my opinion - the only thing better than one cat is 2! I think the kitty picked HER! Now you can't stand in the way of true love, can you? & what a perfect Valentines gift!

Lots of room here, all empty loungers at the pool & if you show up - I will make unlimited umbrella drinks.

Riiiiiggghhht Wonka?

Boy, your offer sure sounds good! Too bad I have work.

I'm still laughing about me standing in the way of true love. Hahahaha! That cracks me up! I'm sure she'd agree with you too! We're going to go meet Petey after I take D16 to the hospital for some blood work tomorrow afternoon. If all goes well and they think we are a good fit, I'll make plans to bring him home on Saturday. Good grief.

Now I get to stay awake while D19 and her BF drive from Albany to DC. Their flight was cancelled due to weather, so they rented a car. They are in NYC now, so if the roads are clear, they'll be in northern VA between 2-3 am. I doubt I'll sleep much. Oh well. It's not like I have to work tomorrow or anything. Snort. BA, I hope you enjoy your snow day!

Awww.... the perfect Valentines gift!

I would not sleep either. My kids are great drivers but that Mom thing kicks in when they drive in snow. I worry sick about it. I hope all goes well and you can relax soon.

I work every year at a huge baton twirling event at Disney World. Starts tomorrow. I am reading on Facebook about so many flights cancelled. Some are driving 6 hours to a different airport to take different flights. This is not just a contest - most stay the week and have their family vacations. They've worked hard and saved for this. I have read of several who definitely will not make it. First flights they can get are on Sunday. So sorry for them!

Too bad you can't come down but take comfort in the fact it has cooled off and will only hit 70 today. I will just have to go shopping!

Gineen - I completely understand why you're done! You guys sure have had a whole lot in the snow department this season. And we're sadly lacking, which is also bad for the summer fire season. Why does weather have to be so unbalanced?

My D19 and BF left Albany last night between 8-9 pm. They pulled in my parents' driveway at 6 am. Both my parents shoveled their driveway to make room for the car. They told me that they have between 12-15 inches (snow drifts made it difficult to tell) and another 3 inches expected this afternoon. Yikes!!!! And Mom told me another storm may be brewing to bring more snow again this weekend???

LOL about your friend and the Siamese. I've had them since I was a kid. When Bert and Ernie died (they were my adorable Seal Points before I even got married), I promised Mr. Wonderful I wouldn't replace them since he had some allergies to them. The week after he moved out, I went out and bought little Butterfly, who is MY adorable Chocolate Point. She's been socialized to D16, but let's just say I think she could be smarter (run away IMMEDIATELY when D16 walks in the room). When I had Mocha (our adorable golden retriever), they both allowed D16 liberties with them that no other human would have been granted. It's like they know. In fact, when she was born, Bert slept near her because he knew something was wrong.

Anyway, Butter is my baby. She sleeps with me and talks to me and suffers everyone else. I think she's mad at D19 for leaving. Since that happened, she has been kind of stand-offish and a little snotty to her. Maybe Petey will be the kind of cat that bridges the gap and makes her jealous enough to be more friendly to everyone. They just don't understand her, you know? She only wants to be pet or picked up when she lands on my lap. Otherwise, leave her the f&*k alone. (Especially if she's sitting on a heater vent.) I'm the only one who gets that.

At any rate, we'll head over after D16 gets her blood drawn. You'd think it was complete torture and something that she's never done before with all the caterwauling and theatrics. This will be my carrot reward for it. LOL.

Tomorrow night is my gay male-straight female Valentines dinner! My flank steak is marinating, and I'm taking off at lunchtime tomorrow to go finish everything. Gay men are the BEST audience - they will ohh and ahh over the china, and we'll talk about my floral centerpiece and is that ginger in the marinade? And then the 2 cops will talk about the meth heads they've slammed to the ground, and my world will be absolutely perfect. Topped off with homemade blackberry cobbler and vanilla ice cream. Oh, the love. I've promised myself to do this more often. D16 will just sit there and laugh her ass off while she stuffs herself full of valentine candy.

For all of you in the snow belt, stay warm! Gineen, go read some books and enjoy the next 24 hours to yourself. I really LOVE those kinds of days! Our tradition was always to bake. I bet my mom that D19 would want to bake cookies when she finished helping her BF shovel. My dad will definitely appreciate that!

Bets,

Topped off with homemade blackberry cobbler and vanilla ice cream. Oh, the love.

[Scurrying as fast as my legs will carry me over to Denver]
I'm right there and trying to swipe it off from your kitchen counter.

This brings back fond memories of my late paternal grandmother who used to bake honest-to-goodness homemade blackberry, rhubarb-strawberry, cherry, peach cobbler and lemon meringue pies picked fresh right off from trees & bushes straight out of her backyard.

Ah, wonderful aroma and good memories.
