I listened to the song you mentioned - have never heard of Brandon Heath before but love his voice and that's a great song.
I guess if I think "I'm not who I was," I would think of it less as "I have changed and am different now" and more as, "I wasn't being who I really am, but I'm back." Or maybe that's the point . . .
