BTW, the link is still down... I managed to get to the cart, but it wouldn't let me finish the transaction. I wrote to customer service, so hopefully by tomorrow. And I would LOVE to go with you!
Your NYE sure sounds fun. I'm home by myself - D19 gets off at 6, but she hasn't spent any time with friends, and I'm betting that she has plans with them tomorrow night. Have a great time!
BA--Sorry, I didn't mean to hurt your head! And honestly, it's okay if you and MI Sarah click - honestly, I'm all for it if that's what both of you want. I just wanted to make sure that she wasn't expecting you to consummate your friendship (YIKES!) and that any expectations on either side were verbalized and agreed upon. And for the record, I also hope you find your special lady in 2014.
As far as my scotch goes, I've got the bottle in front of me to get this right. It's called Highland Park Capella Special Edition. It's made in the Orkney Islands and is smoky. I love smoky scotch. Can't stand peaty flavors or speyside. It's my one bar vice, and I happen to really enjoy being the talking point at a bar. I don't know many women who like single malt (okay, my mom is the only other one), and it's kind of fun to get the attention. Plus, I'm usually game to try new stuff, especially if it's free. That's how I know I don't like peat or spey. The blurb on the box says "The Northernmost Scotch Whisky Distillery in the World." It says the distillery was established in 1798...
Kat--That is a great price for a regression. Are you going to do it? You should come out in March to this conference with me and GG. One of the keynote speakers is Brian Weiss. I think we talked about him? He was my first good read in regressions. I'm home alone tonight and think I might have a night of reading and sipping egg nog in store. I've had one of his books out to read again for a month or so, and it is a good night to start. D19 is working and will finally be home after 5 days of dog/house sitting for her bestie. I saw her yesterday for church, but that's it since Christmas. And she leaves for NY one week from tomorrow.
Work is going okay - I've got plenty of work - but I am dealing with clients who keep moving projects back and they all seem to be coming to a head in January. Plus one of them has not paid me for work done, and I had to borrow from the bank of mom and dad until that damn check arrives. We're talkig a Fortune 500 company! My contact there is out until Thursday. Unfortunately, the due dates on my bills aren't waiting for Larry to get back.
I'm off to grab a glass of wine. I found out this morning that one of my 1st cousins is marrying another 1st cousin. They're both on my dad's side - the one riddled with the Angelman gene that my D16 has. And neither one of my dad's siblings (who are the 2 parents of these clowns) would get tested for it. My dad is genuinely concerned and thinks the whole thing is crazy. Shaking my head here, because there is not much else to say on the subject. Except ick.
GG, let me know if you can get the link to work tomorrow and I'll follow suit quickly.

Hey Wonka - thanks for the good wishes. I'm heading to Aloha Land & won't think about it. Just a few hours after my plane touches down I will be back to the dr for more tests but I'm not going to think about it. I'm just thrilled that nearly everyone has power back after the ice storm. What a nightmare that was!
GG- you've arrived! Your New Years Eve sounds perfect. I remember the days when we used to have a nice dinner with friend then games night. Mostly that was before Ryan got sick. Enjoy!
BA- I think you've got your head on straight but your hands too full. It will all become clearer in time. Hoping 2014 will bring you THE ONE!
Betsey - quiet NYEs is not so bad. I used to think the whole world was partying without me but in truth - many don't - they're already tired from the holidays.
Josh & I will celebrate in Toronto with dinner out & I'm hoping to catch Saving Mr Banks. If you know me - you know I'm a Disney Girl! We will spend the night at his other house ( that finally has power) & also celebrate his birthday. Our flight leaves on New Years Day. We will miss that holiday - travel will last about 14 hours! Hopefully we can get dinner in Vancouver during our layover before heading to Kaui.
Wishing all of you the best for a very happy, healthy new year. Cheers!
I am trying to set up an appointment on MLK JR day since I am off. She is closed through the 13th, so I am crossing my fingers. I don't know about the conference. My boss is going to be gone part of March and there is just the two of us so I can't be gone when he is. I will be back to work Thursday, so I will see. Also D15 will be off to Disney with the marching band. I will have to see how my money is after that is paid for.
You've got me thinking .

BA, I say, why not? I did the same thing with "Oregon" last March. Our phone calls and online conversations were so terrific we felt it best to meet in person and early on. It makes no sense to not test the "energetic connection" in person. For me, I knew almost instantly that Oregon wasn't right for me and it made for a somewhat awkward 4 days. But, I would do the same thing over again if I had to. Finding love does take effort/work, but in the end I think it's worth it. I'm sending you positive thoughts and all the best. BTW, is one of them a golfer???
Thanks for the affirmation GG! Her visit is going to be for a little over 2 days, but I'm hoping it isn't an awkward 2 days. You never know until you try. It's better than just endless online communication back and forth!
I'm so happy for you that the new Dave is working out so well for you. Your persistence was finally rewarded it looks like. Have a great NYE. I will be celebrating by myself with a bit of 21 year-old Scotch. Hoping next year I will be in your shoes - well not necessarily in YOUR shoes, but you know what I mean! :-)

No problem Betsey - the swelling is almost down! ;-) I get what you are saying and yes it is important that we both are on the same page regarding her visit.
Thanks for the information on the Scotch. It sounds fantastic. Too bad you can't find it in the States. I'm not a big peat fan either which is why the Glenlivet and Glengoyne Scotch's appeal to me so much. I will be nursing some 21 year-old Glengoyne tonight to celebrate the New Year! :-)
It is rare for women to be scotch drinkers, however I've seem to run into a few of them lately. Julie is a scotch drinker although I'm trying to convince her that it is wrong, wrong, wrong to drink the good stuff on the rocks! Vickie who I dated briefly in October/November was a big Macallan Single Malt Scotch fan. Anyway, there are more of you out there then you might think. :-)
My tried and true favorite is the Macallan 18 year. I am happy to "settle" for 12 year if they don't have it or my purse is a little light. When I really can't afford anything, Glenlivet or Glenfiddich will do.
Have you ever tried the Glenlivet Oak Aged? I truly LOVE it. Last bottle I bought was about 4 years ago and it was about $70 then. It probably hasn't gotten any cheaper.

Okay, my friend. You might want to lay off Julie a bit. I've gone to two scotch "tastings" and learned that you *must* add a rock or a splash of water to "open the bouquet" and let the scotch breathe. This is especially true for scotch sold in the US, as it is not the same as drinking it neat on the other side of the pond. In fact, the tasting I went to way back when said unless the whisky is REALLY, REALLY good, neat isn't advised if you want it to go down really smooth.
Just sayin'!
I'm jealous about the Glengoyne! I also have another bottle of something that was given to me by a former colleague who knew firsthand that I hate peaty scotch. This bottle is peat. I save it for friends who like the stuff, because I sure don't.
Happy New Year!
Betsey
p.s. Good to know I'm not the only conversation piece at the bar!

Bets - Macallan is THE BOMB when it comes to Scotch, I agree. However the Glengoyne is a pretty good match for it. Glenlivet not so much but it is a good drinking scotch and yes I have had the French Oak Aged (15 year-old) which I actually like pretty well. I've got an 18 year-old bottle right now that isn't too bad either, however I'm not sure the taste over the 15 year-old justifies the extra cost.
As for the scotch tasting, I agree it is imperative to add a "splash" of water to open up the Scotch. They advocate this over across the pond, although it is recommended that it be a very small splash. I do add a small bit of water to all of the scotch I drink. Julie on the other hand would prefer having a full glass of ice and then pouring the single malt scotch over it. NO, NO, NO - it dilutes the taste way too much. I told her that if she wants some of my stash she is going to have to learn to enjoy it with just a bit of water. I'm not wasting it over a bunch of ice cubes!
BTW - I don't remember you sharing this love of scotch when you were out this way a couple of months ago? I've got a great Scotch Bar we can go to when you come back out next time!

Ewww, that IS gross! That's totally disgusting and I don't consider her a *true* scotch drinker! Why doesn't she just drink jack and water? I usually add one or two ice cubes, depending on the size, and then let it sit for a minute. Not much longer, though!

LOL, well the bar we went to didn't exactly cater to the discerning scotch drinker? When in Rome, drink beer? I'd love to go to a Scotch place with you. I'll let you know when I make it back to DC again! I'd bet my parents would like to know this as well...

I agree and I guess in the spirit of this thread's title - "one thing I wouldn't do for love is to give my good scotch to someone who was going to dilute it with a glass full of ice cubes!"
