Today I took a long lunch and I went to spend my bonus money (I did get it, it was called an "INCENTIVE" award)at a SUP place. I told the guy which board I liked, told him about my current board, told him about some other boards I had ridden..... and he picked out a completely different board than I would have picked. Less money, too.

I decided he does that for a living, and I went with his pick. The end of the year sale was great, he threw in a rash guard, some cool decals for my car, and the leash. He suggested I wait on a new paddle, because the board height is different.

So I got off work and went down to Hickam Harbor. Got out on the water and the new board was all that and more. I was able to spend WAY more time standing up. The wind picked up at the end and I did sit down. But it was pretty amazing. Huge difference between the boards. My old one is still good for super flat days and for actually surfing. Which I am not really good at. I don't catch waves, they catch me!

Sounds like a fun day. I have fond memories of Hickam Harbor, Hickam Beach and also Mamala Bay Golf Course smile. Was stationed at Hickam from 91 to 95.

How nice that he helped you find a better board for less money. My daughter worked for a store last summer that sold paddle boards. Haven't tried it yet but it's on my Bucket List.

I'm packing this weekend. Josh & I are headed to Hawaii on New Years Day. It will be my 5th trip there. Just love it. Kaui, Oahu then Maui. My daughter will join us for the last 2 weeks. We have so much planned - can't wait!

@ Barb: Tell me when you are on Oahu. I am off weekends and certainly can help you get that SUP checked off your bucket list. The beach I go to is wheelchair accessible. Is Josh in a wheelchair?

There is a sidewalk along the back of the beach, shade trees and a place to watch the action. Anyway find me on the alt if you want to communicate. Search my user name.

@ LaBug: Yea for bonuses! And Yea for you. Glad to read you on the Piecing Thread. Keep up the good work.

@ BA HH is the bomb! The little ski ramp is gone, everyone kayaks, SUPs and OC-1s out there now. And the little sailboats are still carrying Wet Hens and their students!

And just a shout out to all of you reading this: Thanks for being there for me. Your support is a wonderful thing. At the VA party the other night they were playing oldies and I was out on the floor when they played "I Will Survive" and "It's Raining Men" and a few other funny songs. It felt great to be tearing up the dance floor and better knowing I am going to be okay.

I hope everyone has a Happy New Year!

Aloha,

Wendy

Hey Wendy,

I'm in Koalina for a week starting next Sunday. My son, Ryan, is in a wheelchair but he won't be with us. Josh is my boyfriend - my daughter will be with us for half the time we are in Oahu.

You know my real name. My last name starts with the name of Barbies boyfriend.

I will look for you on FB

We stayed there 2 years ago at Disney's Aulani. I'm a Disney Vacation Club owner so we can stay for free - really helps stretch those vacation dollars! We are also using points to stay at the Grand Wailea for my birthday & Josh traded his timeshare for a week near Kapalua.

Visited Hawaii 3 times when I was married, twice with the kids. Josh went for the first time 2 years ago & loved it so we decided to gather all the points we had & use them. Half the flights were covered as well as our inter island flight to Maui and the rental cars. Then - out of the blue - someone offered to rent my condo while we are away so that covers most other expenses.

We leave for Kaui on New Year's Day! But Josh's Toronto home is still without power after the ice storm so the scramble to get everything finished is on. Luckily, I am further north where it has not been mild enough for an ice storm for more than a month. I'm looking at about 4 feet of snow as I pack my sundresses & sandals & know I will be on a beach soon!

I can't seem to find you on FB. Are you friends with many from the BB? I am friends with Gabby's Mom, Wii, Beginning Again, Underdog, Cat, Michele among many others. Trying to find someone we know in common.
