you've been on both sides...what do you make of this? Part of me says, he knows he screwed up. He's "cutting me loose" rather than bring me down with him. He wants me to succeed and not make the same errors that he made. It's almost as if he is trying to make amends for what he is causing.
The other part of me thinks he sees me as helpless and is trying to toughen me up. Either way...thoughtful gift given thoughtlessly on Christmas.
