Good news today: thyroid is normal despite stopping pills, blood pressure was low, (I take BP meds), cholesterol was good (take meds) & just sugar was high.

Barb - gotta warn you, don't take it at face value that your thyroid is ok.

What exactly was your TSH? Did they even bother to check your T3? Although the "normal" range for TSH is about 0.35 to 4.2, for a hypothyroid patient, the TSH should be around 1 or less. If they're telling you your thyroid is "normal" now - and your TSH is, say, 3.5 - you probably should be back on your thyroid medications.

Bear in mind that low thyroid can cause 1) hypertension and 2)high cholesterol.

As for both your parents having type 2 diabetes - most of the type 2 diabetes we see is diet-and-lifestyle-related, but there are some other causes. Hemochromatosis (genetic iron overload) causes type 2 diabetes - you should have your iron levels tested. Also, SOME type 2 diabetes patients are really late-onset type 1; that is, they have antibodies attacking their pancreas and they have decreased levels of insulin, not increased.

A Paleolithic diet is the best treatment for type 2 diabetes; check out a website called Marksdailyapple for some really good information on this approach.

Also, get your vitamin D level checked - low levels are associated with obesity AND increased cancer risk. And you are in the frozen north there wink
