Since you have purchased something for him, and ff you are a gift giver, then I would give it to him at some point during his visit. I wouldn't go over board and purchase him a lot of things, but keep it simple. I think what you purchased him, i.e., the flask is a very nice gift and it's not too personal. He will appreciate it. But keep your expectations at zero as he may not go all out this year on gifts for you.
