It could be easily my H with the reply to your compliment, and he would also talk to the dog in the same exact way. I know what you mean when you say that you would rather have him hate you than just be indifferent. I feel the same way. Even though I think that in your case it is not completely accurate. He still does things for you. My H treats me like I never existed as his W, best friend and companion. He treats me like a distant acquaintance who he just messages once in a while and forgets about right after that.
I’m glad you had some nice moments with your H, like hugging and eye contact. I hope there will be more of these. Hang in there.
