I had a great time last week at the VB game. Let me go to the very beginning to give you a sense of what transpired during the evening. A real eye opener for me!
After arranging the dinner outing before the game early in the morning on time and place, I got ready and headed out to the restaurant early in the evening to meet up with the group. I've met with Cass on a previous occasion so she was the only person I knew out of this group. The group that attended the dinner totaled 5 people that included me and Cass.
When Cass walked in through the double doors, I was standing by the area waiting for them. The first thing she did was come up right next to me and touched my lower back very lightly with her hand. I simply smiled at her and she whispered in a sotto voice "I'm heartbroken." I clucked in sympathy. Then Cass introduced me to her latest, new GF Ashley. We exchanged "nice meetyas." Then we all sat around in the "waiting" bay area. I've learned a few things about Cass that really perked up my ears. One telling comment was that she lived in a certain area while I attended high school and that did make my head spin a bit.
Then our number got called and we all got up to be escorted to our table. I sat down at the table with two women sitting each side of me and right across from us sat Cass & Ashley. This is when things got pretty interesting.
I had just barely sat down and got a bit settled in. Then Cass was looking at another direction. Then I glanced up and looked directly at Ashley. Boy! What I saw was very, very strange. Ashley looked dagger eyes at me for that brief second. I thought to myself,"Whoa! What's happening there? I think you're feeling very threatened by me." I acted "as if" everything was a fun and new experience for me by chatting with the group.
[I can see why. All of my life I've been called "beautiful" or "handsome" by people. I'm going with what others have said about me. Whatever]
Then we all left to head out to the VB game. During the game, Cass and Ashley sat together and behaved like a couple with arms around each other. Run of the mill "new" couple stuff. Our home team lost in 3 straight sets that were close in score! A very, very good game with a tough competitor.
Afterward, we walked in a tight pack with the crowds heading out for the exit doors. When we came together in the lobby area, Cass announces "Let's all come out to see where we live." Of course, my head spins out a bit thinking about her and Ashley nested up in their love nest. Silly me! When we arrive at Cass' place, she gave me and another woman a tour of the place (we've never set a foot inside her home). This part got very interesting. Mind you, we all drove in our separate cars to the home.
Back to the program. Cass proceeded by starting with the upper level where the bedrooms are. I saw that her tween daughter's bedroom. Then it clicked in my mind what Cass meant by "where we live"--her and her daughter's place. Of course! Silly me! When we came down to the main level to walk through it, I noticed that Ashely's demeanor/mood changed. She was seriously pouting. I thought to myself, "Oh for f*uck's sake, get your sh!it together for guests." With full mindful awareness, I kept a safe and respectful distance away from Cass. Saw Cass' cute dogs (3 of 'em!) coming out and I crouched down to play a bit with them.
I stood against the kitchen island that looks out to the living room and dining room with a clear sight to the sliding door that leads out to the patio. Cass was busy showing her other guest the dining room hutch cabinet. I stole a brief glance in Ashley's direction as she sat in the living room's leather sofa and she didn't look too happy. WTF?! Then Cass motioned for me to join her and the other guest who I'll call Pam to take a look at the deck area.
When I remarked to Cass how beautiful it all looked, she spontaneously threw her arms around my neck with a very brief hug which caught me by surprise. I'm tall (5'8) and she's short (5'3). Then we all headed inside and we began to say our "good-byes". I did a very gracious thing and gave Ashley a hug with a "very nice to meet you" comment.
As the three of us (myself, Cass, and Pam) headed out to the front door, Pam stopped suddenly in front to make a comment on some art work that adorned the wall. Cass was right next to me and she very gingerly touched my stomach area with the tip of her finger. Geez!!! As you all know, that has to be one of the most intimate touches a person can do to the other. Right? That really perked up my ears.
Then we all left. When I drove by and waved at the remainder group that was out on the front porch area, I saw Cass crouching down in front of a chair that Ashley was sitting in. I can only speculate that Cass was trying to cajole Ashley out of whatever funk she was in. Whatever.
I can say without any doubt that this is definitely a rebound relationship for Cass based on her "I'm heartbroken" comment. My main focus is building a friendship with Cass and connecting with others that I've hit off during the VB game.
Very interesting night indeed!
Oh and here's the kicker...as I toured the study room with the computer, I glanced down and saw a book titled "Marriage Counseling." So that's what Cass is probably studying for her college degree. chuckling
A very, very good game with a tough competitor.
