I don't think it's being lonely, but more like paranoid. He probably thinks because the two of you are going through a divorce and that maybe your GF wasn't speaking to him. He also wanted acknowledgement of his effort to send her money. Remember, they want acknowledgement, affirmation and validation...he's seeking some of that from her as well right now. He did a good deed and he wants her to thank him for being so kind as to send her some money.
Sit quietly, the answers will reveal themselves when you least expect them to. The past is gone, the present is a gift and you need to focus on today, allow the future to reveal itself when it is ready.
