...also would my presence be helpful to her or just bring up another hurt she doesn't need right now. I dunno. I've messaged her so we'll see where it goes. For fifteen months she and her family were a part of my life. I had a very difficult time getting through work today. This has hit me hard.
Sorry I'm just reading this now. When I first heard of all the devastation in the Philippines I thought of SDA lady & I wondered how it was affecting you. This is not an easy situation. But it is a good time for you to reach out to her as a friend but to maintain the boundaries already set. She does have other support there & if you went in person - you could very easily get sucked back into the drama. (I don't mean that to sound harsh).
You let her know that you care. And you do care. Leave it be and pray. See how she handles it by contacting you or not.
The world cares. You could make a donation if that might make you feel better.
Thanks Barb. I too fear getting sucked into the drama so you're not being harsh when you say that. We both care about each other and there were some very special things in that relationship, things we'd both like to have back. Unfortunately, the other stuff doesn't seem to change and that slowly just grinds me down. I just talked to my Mom and told her about today and she said "You're just too sensitive and emotional about these things" Uh, thanks Mom. Geez.
Can't win, eh? Every girl wants a caring, sensitive guy yet when you are being that guy - you're told not to be!
Ok so focus on Rob & have more laughs. I see the Santa Claus Parade committee has asked him not to lead the parade but to watch from the sidelines. He was going to but NAH - he wants to be out there - changing everyone's focus from Santa to him and his ego. I heard they're spoofing him on SNL this week. Surprised that didn't happen sooner. Miley Cyrus hosted last week - she'd have been a good one to roast him.
Let us know if you hear from her & remember - be strong!
Yeah, and today he was talking to the media about "pussy" and how he has enough to eat at home with his wife...I kid you not. This guy should have his own reality show. Just when you think he couldn't say anything stupider...he does! Anyway, SDA Lady phoned me tonight and we talked for an hour and a half. Apparently her family is fine as they live within the city and it was the outlying areas that got hit really bad. She was actually there for three weeks recently and just got back two days before the hurricane hit. Unfortunately, she was there for her father's death. She wasn't able to stay for the funeral. Otherwise, everything else was fine. She was able to see her daughter in Manila between connecting flights. I feel so relieved. She told how much she smiled when she got my birthday message today. I told her to have herself a piece of cheesecake. She said I'm the only one who knows how much she loves cheesecake. So we caught up on each others news and she mentioned how much she loves the photographs I post on FB. So as you may have gathered, compared to my mother, this lady always tells me what she likes about me. That was always so special and it's just who she is. I very much enjoyed talking with her tonight and although saddened at the loss of her Dad, I'm glad everything is else is OK. We just left it that we would talk again soon. I'm tired tonight and need some sleep.
...and he was wering a Toronto Argonaut sweater when he said it. Now the Argos have issued a statement stating their disapproval of what he said while wearing their sweater. This is a freakin circus!
I got a nice message from my Pastor last night. He'd asked me to keep him informed regarding SDA lady's situation, which I did. He wrote "Whatis, you hurt because you love. The heart is resilient but also sensitive. I very much appreciate the care you're showing SDA Lady. Sleep well, my friend" Pastor B knows the whole story as we had coffee and a stroll together a few weeks ago at his invite and he wanted to know my story. He's divorced too and recently re-married...and because of this has had to resign his credentials! Anyway, another story for another day
Saturday I drove my daughter and Voldy to a military base 1.5 hours outside the city for a gymnastics meet. This was a meet to determine who would represent Ontario in a competition in Mexico (like I have the money to pay for that!). D16 did well but neither she nor the other seven athletes from our club made the 8 member cut. She was pleased with her performance, as were we. She begins the Ontario's in two weeks. Last year she squeaked into the championships but due to ear surgery couldn't go. The year before she was at the top of her game and rolled her ankle a week before the championships in Ottawa and missed that too. So, here's hoping this is a better year! Voldy and I drove home alone as D16 was staying with a gymnastic friend overnight. We had a lovely conversation and she was quite pleased to see me taking on photography as a hobby. She was once a photographer for a newspaper in Asia. We drove through the countryside talking about the great shots that were all around us. A very pleasant time. The military base was one I trained on 35 years ago...and it's still as ugly, barren and boring as it was then! It was an interesting feeling to be back there and driving by the Military Police station...rather than going into it...and no, not as a detainee Anyway, a busy weekend. On Sunday my best friend was over to watch football and my team lost, the Argos, but his team, the Tiger Cats, won and are advancing to the championships next week. Today was work again...back to the grind.
