The only frozen pasty I've seen here is filo or puff pastry. I've not yet found frozen shortcrust. I can buy ready-made frozen pie crusts made with shortcrust - I've actually tried using them to make pasties with some success. Not everything can be made with puff pastry though.
I know what you mean about a plate of frozen bits and bobs not having much colour. Dad made pickled beet and pickled red cabbage this year so he'll use them as the vegetable part of the meal occasionally - certainly adds some colour. He's thinking about doing pickled onions and pickled eggs for Christmas like he used to.
