I don't like the shop bought mince pies as they stick to the roof of your mouth. I prefer to buy homemade mincemeat or mincemeat in a jar and pastry and make my own.
We've got a shop here called Aldi and their Christmas pudding is the best one on the market so I'll be getting that one this year smile Only a little one though as there's only 2 of us. My son likes cream with his smile I also like mince pies warmed up smile Mind you if they give away mince pies at the Church, I won't say no smile

We didn't have an Aldi down in the South West where I lived. M&S make a pretty decent Christmas pudding. Harrod's is also good - but it had better be the price they charge LOL laugh .

My mum used to make her own mince pies - I didn't like them either. She also made jam tarts and sausage rolls for Christmas - now those I like smile. I would always help her with the Christmas baking even if I didn't eat the results. I don't do much of my own baking as I have a real problem getting pastry to come out decently. We've got a frozen food store (similar to Iceland) here that carry good sausage rolls and I try to keep some of those in. I've even been known to have sausage rolls and chicken strips for dinner if I've forgotten to take something out of the freezer (these can all be cooked from frozen) smile.

Oh yes and btw MH, I passed my assignment that you gave me smile I've had my lip waxed and also had my eyebrows reshaped and I was too busy thinking of the result than thinking of my sitch smile
Today there was an answer phone message left on the home number for H. He'd filled in an online form today for this site called bank refunds. I don't know why he gave them our home number, so I rang them and gave them his mobile number.
In one way I want him to get a refund on his credit cards so he won't pester me for money, but in another way I don't want him to get a lot of money as he may just pay for a solicitor to sort out getting his share of the house. I suppose it depends how much he gets and how desperate he is for the money.
Anyway back to the pudding and mince pie debate smile

I always make my own sausage rolls as well for Christmas, it's the only time I really do any baking, lol.

Don;t they do frozen pastry? That's all I buy smile

Me too smile We had chicken strips for dinner last night as well as other frozen bits and bobs. The plate looked very bland last night, no colour in it. Was very tasty though smile

The only frozen pasty I've seen here is filo or puff pastry. I've not yet found frozen shortcrust. I can buy ready-made frozen pie crusts made with shortcrust - I've actually tried using them to make pasties with some success. Not everything can be made with puff pastry though.

I know what you mean about a plate of frozen bits and bobs not having much colour. Dad made pickled beet and pickled red cabbage this year so he'll use them as the vegetable part of the meal occasionally - certainly adds some colour. He's thinking about doing pickled onions and pickled eggs for Christmas like he used to.

Filo or puff pastry is great with mince pies or sausage rolls. The filo pastry mainly for the mince pies, it makes them really lovely smile I use puff pastry for my sausage rolls, I find it better than shortcrust.

Hmmm, I'll have to try puff pastry for sausage rolls. Of course, the other issue would be finding decent sausages or sausage meat to make them with. On second thought, buying them is far less hassle LOL smile.

Found a farm shop not too far away on Sunday that carries real Melton Mowbray pies, Scotch meat pies and a whole range of other British pies. Of course they are all made locally but the samples they had were really nice.

lol pud smile sounds good NQ smile I see what you mean though, it'll be a lot easier for you to buy them, lol. The other thing you could try though is to get a sausage and wrap some pastry round it smile Just a thought smile

Probably still easier to buy them LOL smile. And the frozen ones are really good, not to mention only 20 minutes from frozen as well.

Sorry Pud, but that's the way our threads work sometimes - either food or drink or British telly.
