Government run health care isn't too bad - if you don't mind long wait times and lack of family doctors for a start. Ontario's had it for years - and I just love paying an extra tax to cover it NOT!!!!

You might need something stronger than hard cider LOL smile

But surely the military treat you quickly - as long as it's battle wounds and visible injuries - they need the feet on the ground don't they? wink I've had some contact with military healthcare - I'm a Royal Navy brat and H was in the British Army. I know what you mean.

S13 and I had a pretty quiet weekend. We did a little bit of shopping yesterday - including lunch out compliments of the government LOL. We were going to go hiking today but it was rainy so the hike was out. Instead we went for a drive, and I let S13 talk me into lunch at McD's and on the way home we stopped in at one of the farm shops which has a really nice bakery and also sells some British sweets and biscuits. I'd only intended on picking up some meat pies for my dad's lunches this week but ended up buying some sweets as well. Just what I need in the house - more chocolates less than 2 weeks after Halloween - my son is spoiled, but I do make sure he's not a brat with it smile

Bit of a surprise, or maybe not, tonight - knowing how strange H has been lately crazy . He wasn't scheduled to visit this weekend as he was going away. Anyway, he phoned around 6 and said he'd picked up a little something for our son while away and would it be okay if he dropped by with it after he'd finished his dinner.

He turned up around 8, gave the gift to S13 and then hung around until about 20 minutes ago. S13 had to be in bed early tonight as he's on parade in the morning for Remembrance Day, so H once again hung around after our son had gone to bed. And once again no nasty comments about dad. And tonight he didn't even manage to spoil the atmosphere by bringing up OW.

He's coming around sometime during the week as our son has plans for Sunday so won't be available to see his dad. H said about spending time with our son, and taking me to Costco if I needed anything as he'd have the card from his work. No mention of packing crazy .

NQ - Glad you had a fun weekend with your S! Also positive signs from H, it sounds like. Since I am fairly new to your thread, I don't know how significant this is, but it sure sounds like progress!

Maybe I need to chant the glow worm poem to myself . . . .

Hmmm...NQ, sounds like your H is LINGERING!!! That is way cool, you must be doing something right for him to start hanging around more. And believe or not, he did talk about your future. Well, ok it was at Costco, but he was thinking ahead!

Very positive for you. Yay!

My son did me proud again this morning. He looks so smart in his Army Cadet uniform. All the kids do and despite being bitterly cold and damp, over 140 young men and women turned up to pay respects to our fallen and those that still serve. And being a school day, attendance at this parade is not mandatory so it goes to show just how much respect these young people are learning by being in the cadets.

We popped by H's legion afterwards, as he wanted to see S13 in uniform. A few of the Cadet officers from the Corps associated with that legion were very impressed with S13's appearance, including the fact that he remembered his sirs and ma'ams with no prompting - and they're Navy Cadets not Army so the rank insignias are different. Several of the older legion members were also impressed with his deportment and respect and I got a lot of compliments about him. I guess we've raised our son right! smile

Much to H's dismay, I also got a lot of compliments about the hairstyle that he says he doesn't like smile . He didn't say anything but I saw the look he gave a few of them.
