Love both peanut butter and Nutella. I have NO idea what Marmite or Vegemite are?? I have never heard of them. I googled it and still don't know what it is. A dark brown spread made of yeast? What does it taste like? Is it available in Canada? Would I even want to try it??? lol..

Hi CP, don't know if you can get Vegemite up here - I've never been inclined to look for it - but you can usually get Marmite at any store that sells imported British foods (and there's plenty of them around). My personal opinion of the taste isn't printable - yuck doesn't cover it . I wouldn't recommend that you try it, but there are others that may disagree lol.

The advert for marmite says you either love it or hate it I hate it with a passion. The other thing that H used to put on his toast was bovril, now that is disgusting! You're right NQ, it is pre-MLC, but I think there's a few habits that they keep, such as food tastes. Why are you even keeping his pork crackling. He's not going to miss it or he would've taken it by now. Chuck them out! lol.

Yep, Bovril is another yuck. Saying that though, my aunt used to make a really nice gravy using Bovril, but other than that.....
I was going to throw them out but he actually asked about them last week. Wasn't thinking straight at the time as he threw the question into the middle of a conversation about our son and I actually confirmed that he had left them behind. Don't think I can get away with it now.
I'd probably have offered them to my dad first before throwing them out as he likes them as well. Why waste the money?

Ah well if he's asked about them then fair enough If you're feeling particularly wicked then you can always say to him that they were out of date and you threw them out. Then give them to your dad

Vegemite is the same. Some people like it, some don't. It is an acquired taste. The problem with vegemite and marmite, is that too much is usually put on the bread. You need a small amount to go with the butter. I am happy to send vegemite to anyone who wants it.

My H only puts a small amount on his toast, but I still don't like it. Even the smell is bleurgh! Bovril is supposed to be nice as a gravy, though I either use granules or make my own Homemade gravy is a lot nicer and cheap as well Don't you think that "bleurgh" describes it effectively NQ or do you still call for a more disgusting inappropriate word? lol

Bovril is also nice as a beefy drink, so I've heard Now that is more appealing In fact I remember in my vague and very distant childhood, my mum used to make this for us when we were kids

"Bleurgh" should describe it effectively. That also fits for Cream of Wheat, which quite appropriate in French (bilingual packaging here LOL) is Creme de ble (pronounced very much like bleurgh. For TTD, Reddy Brek is the closest comparison I can think of.
Thanks for the offer on the Vegemite HWA, but I for one will pass.
I've probably had Bovril as a drink, I just don't remember - one of my aunts loved the stuff. That and Horlicks.....
