I hadn't told him about the meeting when I called--just the puzzlement about the open garage door.
He's okay, though. I know I caught him in the middle of bowling and it's distracting to talk through the noise. We both tend to get frustrated when we're doing something else and some problem happens.
My door is still busted, it's snowing like crazy, and the garage door people will not schedule unless someone is home. Crap. Now he's going to have to check it out for me before calling them back. Ugh.
No Bob at bedtime... that's too much for me too! I'm glad it made you stop and think about that, though!

Yep, just another day in the life.... which makes me think of a funny event that happened yesterday afternoon.
I headed into the grocery store while the girls were in their RE classes. Oddly enough, I keep getting in the shortest line with the same checker from week to week. He is a big guy and smiled at me with a sort of puzzled expression.
He commented, "Hey, didn't we just do this?"
I smiled back and said, "Yep, we do this together every Tuesday afternoon! How's your day going?"
He sighed and as he was scanning my stuff commented, "Well, it's just another day here in King Soopers paradise. Here I am, living the dream."
I swear to God I burst out laughing--enough for the entire checking area to turn and look at me. This big guy is really funny and self-deprecating and he hits my funny bone every week.
Now that he made me realize that I keep getting in his line, I'm going to have to seek him out and remind him that we're both "living the dream." AS IF!

Me and my best man do a baseball trip every year to a city we've never been to and Denver is high on this year's list. The Colordao State Fair and Rockies overlap in late August. How long does it take to drive to Pueblo and is Denver the place to be in August??? What are the other "must sees" (other than the check-out comic) for a short trip to Denver otherwise consumed by three baseball games?
How funny... I just posted to you about the baseball trip on your thread a second ago!
August anywhere is hot, but we don't have the humidity that you do. You can get some very pleasant days or really hot ones... you just never know!
Pueblo is about 90 miles south of Denver, and it tends to be 5-10 degrees hotter down there. If you're a state fair kind of guy, you'll enjoy it... I've never been there myself, so I couldn't compare to others.
Let's see. What to do in Denver if you're alive...
The Coors Brewery in Golden is fun. The aquarium is in LoDo, near Coors Field. There is the US Mint downtown, though I'm not sure if they are taking visitors--they closed after 9/11, but I think they might be back up and running.
Depending on the weekend, there are a variety of festivals and events that are scheduled up in the high country... Keystone, Winter Park, Lake Dillon, Vail. You can take a gondola ride at most of them to the top and eat in restaurants at the peak.
You can go mountain biking in almost all places here.
And Glenwood Springs is about 2.5-3 hours west of Denver--natural hot springs pools and caves.
Colorado Springs is on the way to Pueblo... they have the AF Academy and the US Olympic HQ.
If you like to golf, you can indulge to your heart's content.
Growing up on the east coast, I can honestly say with confidence that August here is much more tolerable than August there (at least in the DC area).
If you tell me what piques your interest, I can delve deeper...
I hope you have a dynamite trip, regardless of your side trips! Sounds like you deserve a huge break from life in NY.
Let me know!

But it's nearly time (well, almost) for the season to end and post season to begin. Time to bite my nails and get addicted to the boob tube. Time for D9 to express her dismay at the power of my addiction to sticks and pucks...
Sadly, I didn't see the game because I was attending a special ed information meeting (which turned out to be more information than I bargained for). Have to look forward to catching them in St. Louis tomorrow or in Detroit on Sunday...
I'm thinking that right now, it's okay to have yourself some time in front of the tube--no worries about 180s or DB stuff. You really need the distraction.
I'll tell Joe, Paul, Adam, Teemu and Dave (and all their friends) to try to lose for you next time
