I am reminded of when my first wife became a WAW, long before I ever heard of DB. I was thousands of miles from home and family, in the military. I became good friends with my next door neighbors (a co-worker of my ex) and her family. They practically adopted me into the family for the next couple of years. I've never felt more at home with a group of people outside of my own family. Sadly, in the pre-facebook days, I lost touch with them. I did find one friend from that time on FB, but my old neighbors aren't on FB - yet.
It was during that time that I met current W and she started showing her propensity to try to alienate me from close friends and even family. Not necessarily as a scheme, but I think due to her family life not being at all close and comforting. She always seemed to want us to do much less with family and more just the two of us - even with major holidays.
