i agree, texting every day is great. Just keep your expectations reasonable, since they are teens. but i would suggest never question them on why they dont respond, dont make a big deal out of responding or not responding.
mix it up a little, sometimes just a quick hello, sometimes a quick story of something amazing you experienced, or a picture of someone/something. for instance a picture of something in boston, a landmark or a pint of boston beer or some odd-looking street character.
"In a ham and eggs breakfast, the hen is involved, but the pig is committed".
