Think that qualifies as a duh moment - I didn't even think about the camera on my iPhone. I could have snapped a pic and just shown it to him smile.

And the debt counsellor this morning jinxed me as well. She was on about having an emergency fund to cover car repairs, etc. So tonight I'm volunteering to drive and supervise a group of Cadets on their fundraising and doesn't my car go and die just as it was time to pick them up and return them to base. I had to call the commanding officer to rescue the kids and call the auto club to rescue me. The auto club turns up, runs a test on the battery and announces it needs replacing frown. Could do without that expense! Anyway, they get the car started, I get it home and my dad, the mechanic, gets it on trickle charge. And I'm supposed to be driving cadets again tomorrow. Looks like dad is going to take my car tomorrow and get a new battery and I'll borrow his so that mine will be ready for tomorrow night and the cadet run.

Definitely a large glass of wine night smile. Suppose I should be glad it's nothing more expensive than a new battery.

Is it true that in Scotland, everything is fried? (Except maybe hagis. Is there fried haggis? If there is, would it make it any more edible?) Or is Billy Connolly having us on a bit? I saw him on a talk show swear he had deep fried pizza. laugh

It's like that in the southern states in the US. I had a friend in college tell me "I'm from Alabama. We fry green beans!"

NQ, sorry about the battery. I had mine die once while clear across the city, on a hot summer day. I got a jump, and then car would stay running as long as I didn't let it idle, then it would stall. At every light, I had to slam it in park (auto trans) and rev the engine. I had to choose not to take the freeway that day... sooooo many lights. Soooooo many angry, honking drivers the many times it stalled....

Then I had to deal with getting it all sorted so I could get across the city again, since it was the first day of a week long class for work. :-/

Lol MH,
Although Scotland is near to England they are an entirely different culture when it comes to food. I don't know if they fry all their food, but I do know they have deep fried mars bars. Also they have square sausage that you can buy in England as well and so much easier to put in a sandwich than normal sausages smile Oh you've just reminded me, I need to take the rolls out of the freezer. We're having burgers and wedges tonight smile

The worst thing with the car was that 3 of the 4 kids I was supervising weren't mine - and 2 of them were in a grocery store 5km from where my car died and neither had a cell phone so I couldn't contact them to let them know their pick-up would be a little late. It all worked out and everyone got home safely.

Car started great this morning so I've got my own car. Dad said he'd feel more comfortable driving his car - it's smaller than mine - so I've got my own car today. He's going to pick up the battery and change it when I get home so that I can still have my car for the cadet fundraising session tonight. Won't sit in a parking lot with the engine off and radio running - although it was only for 10 minutes. Auto club reckoned it was because the battery is the original so its over 5 years old.

Volunteering with the cadets is great. I get to see teenagers at their best - they look so smart in their uniforms and talk about polite. They're a good bunch of kids. Although it is a bit strange being called "Ma'am" especially by my own son LOL smile

Not sure about everything being fried, but it does seem to be chips with everything - that's "fries" to you MH smile.

I spent a week in Scotland several years ago and must have put on 10 lbs - 5 course breakfasts and dinners. And it would have been a shame to pass as those meals were included in the cost of the tour smile. Fresh haggis isn't too bad in very small portions. At least I can get that down without gagging, unlike mushy peas.

Yep, and it's Friday to boot so the work week is almost over - been a very long, slow week. Roll on the weekend smile. Now if the weather will just hold - thunderstorms threatened for later and those poor Cadets aren't provided with rain coats so hopefully the storms will either not happen or will hold off until after 9 when they're stood down.

My dad texted a little while ago to say he got a new battery for half of what the auto club wanted to charge so that's sorted. He said it'll take about 15 minutes to change so he'll do that later.

Good old dad smile I sometimes wish my dad lived nearer, but then he'll interfere too much! He'll be dragging me down to the solicitors before you can say boo!
Have a great weekend smile I've got a busy weekend planned, doing a lot of GALing smile
