So... now I'll jump back to the end of the weekend saga, just because it's funny.
I was feeling down, before the work in the garage boosted my spirits. Then, since my home team was playing a local team, I figured I'd get some garlic parmesan wings and onion rings and watch the football game - not *that* kind of football, TTD. NQ has had plenty of time to get used to the term. Anyway, I just sat down and ate a couple rings and hadn't touched the wings yet (to the dismay of the begging cat!) when W texted me and asked if I wanted to order a pizza before she came over and we could eat while she did some laundry and then we could head out to the book store!
Yikes!!!!! I had completely forgotten she was coming.... so, I put the wings and rings in the oven on low heat and ran across the street and ordered a pizza.
Does that come under the classification of "Oops" .
Bet your W didn't even notice the wings and rings hiding in the oven.
As for the game, I'm now used to football applying to 3 different games - the proper football game (or soccer as they call it on this side of the pond), Canadian football and American football. Can't say I watch much in the way of any of them. S13 is into hockey - and not our local bottom of the league, couldn't win the Stanley Cup if they were only team in the league, team - so I've learned to enjoy, or pretend to, the Penguins. I'm hoping to have enough spare cash to be able to get him to one of their games up here. He'd go nuts over the thought of seeing his favourite player in real life. And sorry, MH - he's the one that one that gold medal back in Vancouver against the US team !

Ooooh, I remember that. I was almost rooting for them. Seems like the US team was being overly cocky or something? Ah, well.
I get points for recovering the situation, right?
I remember watching Mike Meyers on a talk show once humorously explaining the differences between American and Canadian football. But everything he says if funny.
I knew you meant American football, lol. When I was living at Dad's we used to watch it on TV every Sunday night. My Dad was more of a fan than I was I don't think we get it on TV now, unless I search for it. I think you recovered really well from that sitch MH It was funny though, lol. So you didn't get to watch your footie after all? Mike Myers is really funny, especially in those films he made that I've forgotten the name of, lol "Schwing!"

If they call it soccer over here, why do a lot of the teams have "Football Club" in their name? That strikes me as being silly . Our local football, oops soccer team , is one example.

The funny thing is, I read that the origin of the name soccer came from the UK. Then it fell out of user there, and we picked it up.
Term “socca” was initially created as an abbreviated version of “association football” which was often used to differentiate the game from “rugby football.”
In the US, this shortened slang version evolved from “socca” to “socker” and finally “soccer” – and there it stayed."
So Google tells me... LOL. I don't even watch it, whatever name it goes by.
