I've come up with a way to convince my son to try and save. When I opened a bank account for him I made him a deal. For a maximum of three times otherwise it gets too expensive, if he puts his pocket money into the bank and it stays in there for at least 30 days I'll match it - he's managed it once so far since April and I'm sure that was only because he put $25 into his account on the day before he left for a two week sleep away camp with his Cadets and he came home with a paycheque . So two more times it'll cost me double pocket money - if he can actually manage not to spend any of it LOL.
He wants to buy an XBox so at least he's got a goal to save for. And of course, if I've got some spare cash I'll help him buy it if he can save the majority himself.
