We can request to speak to someone who's from our country as well, but I don't do it as I feel that it may be offensive to the person on the other end of the phone. So I just put up with someone who can't understand me and I can't understand them, lol. Trouble is with me that I'm too sensitive to other people's feelings. I just did something totally normal on that day and didn't celebrate it at all!
