The Sunday Rumpus Essay: Grief Magic By Emily Rapp

What do ruined people do? Weird sh!t. This seems to be the consensus of psychoanalysts as far back as Freud and Jung; the traumatized self creates, out of necessity, a system of self-care that is keen to avoid repeat trauma. This makes change difficult; it makes people who’ve had part of their psyches destroyed by unmanageable emotions push people and emotions away, create obstacles, generate unnecessary drama. As a side bonus, one also gets the fun rollercoaster ride of a panic attack, the stress moving into and controlling the body when the mind has had enough. The psyche has become the filter, both for the bad AND for the good. Self-protection becomes self-sabotage.

And the ruined ruin too...

Hi all. Found the above today and wanted to share.

Thank you everyone for stopping by and offering your comfort. It means a god-awful lot to have you, my anonymous friends, in my corner. Lol, what an odd life of late.

I don't have much time atm. I am ok. Been better, but been much worse. H snuck another R talk on me last night. Why I didn't leap from the bed screaming and flee the house I don't know. Really just a rehash of other talks.

Of note, OW's H is giving her a hard time since he found my letter. And may I quote IconaPop "I don't care - I love it!!" lol. Nope, bothers me not at all. Absolute lack of sympathy for her sitch. Tough luck bee-atch smile

Take care all.

Peace. ~~ smile ~~

You teach people how to treat you by what you allow.
What you stop.
And what you reinforce.
