My 2 cents ONLY...but I don't think LL's h left the marriage FOR the friendship. I think he S. to alleviate confusion, anger, stress, discomfort, maybe a thousand other things but I don't have the sense that the "friendship" WAS the destination.

But... that's just speculation!
