There is a lot of grounded speculation out there that men experience their own form of PMS too. Could very well be what you are going through...considering that you have noted it is cyclical.
It also could be that your subconscious is anticipating your W's PMS, particularly if she is one of those women who gets extremely moody and seemingly an emotional hysteric Your own mood is a combo physical/mental cringe.
