Not without giving you my real name, LOL! Suffice to say that in the distant past it was considered a fine name for boys too, but as it got passed down from generation to generation it was no longer so. I told my grandmother the name would NOT get passed on to my son after the agony I went through in elementary school, and I stayed true to my word, my son got a good solid boy's name
I had EXACTLY the same sitch, Stander! I once calculated that we had lived in 25 houses by the time I went to college, and in every new school, I dreaded that horrible (but, alas, inevitable) moment when the teacher would ask me to stand up in front of the class and introduce myself.what made matters worse was that EVERY character on TV or in movies who was a real geeky, pathetic character always had my name!

My father in laws name is Lavern. I never knew another man with that name, but like AS said, apparently it was an appropriate name for a man way back when. I could imagine the trouble a boy would have with that name today.
AS, maybe like Sue in the famous song by Johnny Cash, "it's that name that helped to make you strong"!
M: A really long time. Crisis: 5 years. She's still worth it.
