Yeah, I have an analytical thing, I know. My engineering/patent related job probably does not help.
Sure I do stuff spontaneously. For example, we do not have a GPS system in our car and I just try unknown roads sometimes, looking for something new. I have hundreds of new songs that I have never listened to on my Zune music player, and just let them play, looking for good tunes. On vacations we generally do not book hotels ahead - just show up and find something (this has led to having to sleep in the car).
Maybe this is not spontaneous, as they are chosen behaviors, but I think they qualify?

Btw, I would encourage you to book ahead for a room. I would think it would not help the tension between you and W if you don't have the comforts of a good hot bath and a big, soft bed at the end of a day of sight- seeing. Women just need it.
It is not about what you feel should work in your M. It is about doing the work that gets the right results. Do what works!
I agree. Those don't seem very spontaneous. I'm thinking more along the lines of you having a quickie with your W in a closet if the mood struck you, or other things with your family that was extremely spur of the moment.
I'm with Sandi about the hotel room. Do a 180 and find a nice place or someplace that's unique to where you're visiting.

Sure, other stuff, like driving by a restaurant, and suddenly turning around to try it out just because it looked good.
We'll be staying in a fancy lodge for MIL 75th birthday, but will probably improvise for other places. It is important that wife chooses also, as she has complained that it was always me organizing and planning our trips. I'll see if I can tilt the choice toward nicer places so her experience will be nicer.

That was just an example of spontaneity. You can't keep responding to what we post to you so literally.
In terms of your "improvising" for other places, I don't know what you mean by that, but do not wait till you get there to decide where to stay. How about treating your W and D to a spa day while you and your son do one of the recreational things? You can have champagne and strawberries delivered to your room, or whatever.
