I don't have any other ideas for a 2 year old...
he already got a trike at Xmas. And a battery powered tractor

Any ideas mums, dads in here?
Thank you,

I don't think any electronic toy for him will "compute" with him. He won't "get it" and it's possible you'll look out of touch with him/his age.

I suggest you Go to a toystore like "Toys R Us" and look at the rows and rows and aisles of toys. You'll be overwhelmed. There are so many options.

They'll have on the label of each, "suitable for ages x - y" and you'll know. Assume your son is smarter than the average kid and go for ages "over 3" and he'll play with it longer. (I'm assuming he's turning 2?)

Since you're an engineer, why not aim for large Legos or other building materials or connecting blocks?

There are several interlocking types & versions that are not so small that he'll choke on them.

OR get a toy musical instrument that he can actually learn something on, without it being too complicated. OR something else he can do with his hands that is "artsy" and YOU can do with him. Play-doh, hand paints, etc.

But as I said, look at the label. And Bruce, seriously, read at least ONE book on child rearing. There are a TON of them out there.

I found & read books for every year of our son's first dozen years. (Then I bought a book on teenagers. Plus I have 2 dozen nieces and nephews, & 8 siblings to consult with along with my mom). Do you have any siblings to discuss this with?

There are books such as "Your Toddler's First 4 Years" , or "You're 5 Year Old, (What to expect)" and they go for every year of your kids' life. Those books will have suggestions too.

This is not as hard or complicated as you seem to feel/fear.

Bruce, this might be your only child. I don't know.

Regardless he'll always be your first child. So if I were you, I'd do my utmost to enjoy this time w/him. Get to know him.

Good luck.
