BeingMe, I'm glad you sent the email. I understand what you are saying about getting the financial stuff in order. You don't want cc bills hanging over your head when you are starting "fresh" in the world. He may not respond back to you because you may have caught him.
Why lie? I have a thought about why he may have been back in town. Maybe he wanted to come back into town unannounced so that he could observe you and your comings and goings unannounced. Maybe he thinks you have someone waiting in the wings since you've begun moving forward and wanting a divorce. An mlcer's mind is a strange machine because what we see as rational and the right thing to do, isn't always what they see or think should be done.
BTW, if he's the type that stretches the truth during the crisis, he'll continue to do so until he comes out the other side.
