brother....don't EVER read a person's diary...that's like sitting in on a therapy session without telling anyone you are there

that isn't part of the transparency deal

everyone is still entitled to their private thoughts

that is what a diary is for

how did the singing gig go or your wife?

I know, I know fig... smile

It was a mistake ...

I will still take what I can out of it. There was no new info. W had already told me how she felt when she left many, many times. But I guess that knowledge was on a superficial level to a degree. To read her own words in something that she never planned on having anyone else see, well, it hits home in a different way.

Won't do it again though.

Thanks for checking in Fig. I'm well. Been kind of a tough week because my W just started up with the teaching gig again. Early mornings have made us all a little cranky. But nothing out of the ordinary I don't think.

those soul bearing words are wicked painful sometimes

I just started back teaching this week too

early mornings bite....ugh

next week when the kids come back is going to be rough too

blech

hang in there and remember to be extra nice these next couple of weeks because she will be tired and stressed getting back into the swing of things.

Thanks Fig. I haven't been as patient with her as I should be this week. I guess that I don't quite understand why going back to work after 3 months of being off is so stressful. I would think that you'd be rested. Then again, I haven't had to teach a bunch of bratty 7th graders before.

I'm going to take your advice though and be extra patient for the next couple of weeks.

Hope it goes smoothly for you as well!

Thanks for more explanation of your "darkness". For now im going almost black....we haven't had a call/text/face to face in almost a week now. I think last Friday was the last time we had anything and it was text. I did physically see her at my S11 practice and she waved so I waved back, but that was all. Tonight we have a scrimmage against another team and I really don't know if she'll show up or not but if she does it will be the same thing for me again. Im not gonna avoid her, but im not gonna make an effort to speak to her either.

Im going to be as nice as I can be and focus on me, my son and my team and enjoy the moments I have left. Its a little bit bittersweet in that this is his last year in youth sports so its the last year that I have to coach him. After this it will be all school athletics so im trying to savor every minute of practice and games with him so we both leave with wonderful memories. LOL Thats kind of a 180 for me as well b/c i've always been pretty much a hard @ss as a coach. Im still pretty demanding, but I give much more praise now than I used to, both to my son and to others.

You are wise to realize this, Carnac, and to focus on getting as much enjoyment out of this time as possible. I coached both of my sons for youth baseball (and some youth basketball and flag football, too), and this Spring was the first season in 9 years that we didn't participate. Although we know intellectually that they're never going to be Major Leaguers (much less even college ballplayers, in most cases), it's still really sad when the ride comes to an end. frown cry

Your right Starsky...I coach my son in youth football and in basketball. He absolutely loves football, and has always wanted to be quarterback. So we've been to quarterback camps every year for the last 3 years. I've always told him to dream big and never let anyone tell you your not gonna play D1.....realistically I know its incredibly unlikely, but he's 11 and I don't want him giving up his dreams.

My friend and I have coached both sports together for about the past 5 years and we were sitting around talking about it the other day and we probably only have about 25 more practices with our sons as far as football goes and then the season will be over so im trying to make every experience positive, for me, for him and for every other player on our team. I want to make sure they leave this final year of youth sports with a good impression of their coaches.

Starsky, I haven't been able to read all of your old threads yet, but would love to have a conversation about this trip you've been on...i dont really know the rules here, since there is no PM how do you converse?

PMs aren't allowed; some folks are on one or more DB (or not DB) groups on Facebook. But you can always find me over in Newcomers -- I have a thread there now called "Transparency." I'd be happy to answer any questions you have, Carnac.

It is very stressful going back to teaching after the summer...it's like changing shifts.... days to graveyards

and

there is a ton of stress because you have a whole new group of kids...with a whole new group of attitudes and you need to tailor the lessons for each new group of kids

and

you have to be "on" for 8 hours a day
happy even if you don't feel like it
caring even if you want to smack them
engaged even when you have a head ache

you never get any down time

going from low key to high gear is stressful and exhausting and takes some time getting back in the swing of things

I worked with a teacher who likened teaching to a marathon...summer was a water break smile but then you are back at it...
