I'm wondering if Mr. Butthead hasn't offered as many affirming words as you'd like because he doesn't want to detriment himself. Worded another way, I bet he feels like he’s behind the race in self-growth and doesn’t want to send you further along by boosting your confidence. He might be reflecting on his own part in the marital problems and sorting out how he is going to change…and here you are just cruising along at 80 while he’s trying to figure out first gear!
Plus, I think the guys are sensing that a lot of the control is in their hands right now. We haven’t really allowed them much control over anything in the past, so they might not be ready to play their trump card just yet. They might like the feeling of holding it and knowing that it is theirs to drop when they want.
