I am confident that she agrees, she is a very spiritual person and is very devoted to our church. And it would be separate from any birthday activities that might occur. Usually when we have an event like this there is a family dinner afterwards, but that will only occur if she offers. I don't want to be seen as pushing by bringing it up. I also feel pretty safe in saying that she will want to be there when he is ordained,

OK, so...

Under traditional sense, who is the one who gets everything ready regarding the church? I know with some, it is the father's role. In others, it doesn't matter and often it falls on the mother.

Can you talk to the church and find out if anything has been set up regarding your S?

Usually, the ordination is performed during the services so there is nothing to set up other than an interview with the bishop and his executive secretary takes care of that matter.

When would the interview with the bishop take place? Is it appropriate and traditional for both parents, and possible S, to attend the interview?

The bishop has an office in the church building where the interview takes place. It is a confidential interview so only bishop and S would attend. Often they are scheduled for right after the Sunday meetings are finished.

OK, then...

why don't you set up a meeting for the next service and then let your W know that you have done so?

ie. "Hi W. Just wanted to let you know that after the church service on X date, I've scheduled S to interview with the bishop."
