Tell your H (by the by, in a chatty sort of way by IM or whatever) that you had a couple of ideas about how to use your ticket - plan A involves coming up to see him, and plan B is any other plan you fancy. Ask him for his usggestion about which plan you should go for. That way, if he says plan B, you will already have your alternative worked out and it will seem as if you are still going to enjoy yourself, somewhere! (Less loss of face, for you, seems less pursuing on your part). He could of course suggest plan A!!!
