I would let him do the talking. Validate where you can. Validating doesn't mean you necessarily agree, just that you understand he has a right to his feelings.
If your H is BP and will not take meds for it on a continuous basis, I believe you will be going through this type of thing all during your M. The comings and goings as it started before you M'd. He definitely seems very confused and conflicted.
