I think it's a good idea you stay a year and see what happens if it's what you want to do. You've done so well at GALing....and have such a life full of many things. I wish my life were so full of exciting and fun things to do. I think your DIL could really get a good little business going for herself...especially over there! And you would be such an asset to her and help.
Plus your friend still needs you and I know you want to be there for her.
I say go for it Wendy.
And yes, there is something fishy about that employer and insurance. That should be taken out of wages and printed out on their wage statement. I have never heard of anyone making out personal checks to their employer for insurance.
Yeah, that employer is claiming he's paying the insurance, and then taking the employee's money under the table - cheating the government in some way, I'm sure of it.
Wedding planning sounds like something you could be good at! But I have to ask - what is your relationship with your DIL like? Will you really be able to work under her without it wrecking family relationships? Or should you stick to babysitting the kids and let her find other people to do the other stuff? Think carefully about your personalities, and about how you'll react if she (as the "boss") criticizes you for not doing something fast enough or well enough?
I'm not saying it won't work - it might be fabulous. Just look closely at your interpersonal dynamics.
And I think it's not such a bad idea to stay on the island until you get things settled at least. The only problem I see is the risk of you getting priced out of the housing market if you wait too long to buy a new place - BUT - at the same time, it's not a good idea to jump too quickly into a purchase when your life is so unsettled.
I finally managed to just walk out of the house as STBXH was walking in. I don't know why but it gives me high anxiety.
I had a coupon from Buca de Pepa for a free dessert, good for a few weeks after my birthday. I took myself out for a salad last night. Ate at the bar, no problem. Enjoyed my birthday brownie.
Then I went by Walmart. looking for some bits and pieces to get my house staging complete.
STBXH never tells me when he will be home from work, or when he has days off. So I planned something for today, and it turns out he is off work. I guess I will still do as I planned. He is already in my way, as I planned om playin g loud music and packing up boxes this morning. He is doing his favorite thing in the world, sleeping in.
Hope everyone has a nice weekend!

Loud music vs sleeping in ... I think you win, Wendy. LOL

I forgot to tell you what I bought with my Best Buy $600 card I won from Mountain Dew..........
The Bose Sound Dock 10. So now I can play music in my space and dance and pack boxes and clean house. I prefer it over having headphones one. I need the music so the neighbors can't hear me singing!
It was on sale for $539, so I got my DIL a cover for bher iPad she got for her birthday, and the rest went for taxes. I paid $2.17 at the register!
The best part is the kids can use it, too!
I had a Tie Dye class here at my house yesterday with my quilt guild ladies. Always fun! One of them told me I am the glue that brings people together. How darn sweet was that!?!
The feral cat just came by, said hi.......
Aloha,
Wendy

Nice! The Bose is, apparently, a good sound system. Wish I could afford one.
You sure are the glue that brings people together.

I wanted to spend that money on something special. I want to always remember that funny feeling I had when I dropped the envelope into the mailbox. I KNEW I was going to win.
The Bose portable, rechargable sound dock that runs about $250 on sale has a nice sound, too. I just needed something I can play loud enough to hear over the sewing machine...... bad me!
Now the cat and I are off to start filling up a storage locker with boxes of stuff. Stepping through the process. Reminding myself to not talk about anything personal.

We went and got a storage unit and put boxes and some furniture in it. I told him it was in my name and only my stuff was going in it. We cleaned out a storage area that is part of the house here and I told him I thought we should put his stuff in there as we divided it. He agreed.
We walking out of the storage unit and he asked me to give him a ride on the handcart, like we do for our granddaughter. I said okay and stood the cart up. He stepped on it, and I tilted it back. I guess he didn't think I would do that, and he sort of fell backwards. I showed my weight lifting prowess, and caught all 180 pounds of him. He said: "WHOA!"
I said: "Get up before I drop you on your head or pee my pants!" He got up and we laughed so hard. When we got back to the truck he ran up and leaped into the bed of the truck to get the last boxes. It seemed like he was showing off.
Anyway, the bruise on my hand is already spectacular.
