You COULD do the same. The question is whether you WOULD. And if not, why not?

As for Gabe. A lot of guys aren't the best communicators even without baggage lol. And the ones who think they are are often more trouble than the ones who at least know their self-imposed limitations. The grass always looks greener on the other side of the fence, but it's got just as many holes and weeds lol.

And at least he wants to watch TV WITH you. It's the little things sometimes lol.

CRAP!!! Ok, as if things aren't tough enough. Gabe's hours just got cut to 2 days a week! He barely makes over minimum wage anyway! I'm not going to make it.

I have lived so long in panic and survival mode but this is the last straw. Seriously! Oh yeah, also...I'm going to have to PAY taxes this year because of mom's IRA disbursement that I didn't have an option to roll into another IRA account because I'm not her spouse. I paid taxes out of it at the time of the disbursement but now the federal goverment wants an additional $1400 in taxes. On a piddly little $7500 that I had to use most of to pay her final expenses!

I QUIT!

Im so sorry Mish...as you know, financial struggles I am no stranger to, and I know that nothing helps you feel better in that situation unless someone sends you a big fat check!!..LOL,

Im learning to just let it go, If I cant do anything about it theres no point in worrying about it and I just take one day at a time...I know, it sounds like BS but its the only way to get throught it..and so far? When things have been at what looks to me like rock bottom? something happens and I get by..

Yesterday i was wondering how I was going to fit groceries in this week, and I get an envelope from the Water Co. in the city that our (me and my H) old house was in. Apparently the water bill was still in my name and he over paid them by $120..it was a refund check made out to me since it was in my name and it had come to me because of my change of address when the house sold last month...Thank you H!!..and groceries taken care of!! LOL!!

I hope it gets better soon for you Mish...I wish I could help you because you have been SO supportive of my sitch and I really appreciate all of it..

((((hugs))))

Oh honey! That is awful!

I know you guys have been struggling for so long as it is.

Deep breath.

Gabe has obviously gotta pick up some more work. Could you rent out the room your mom was in? I know those aren't immediate solutions, but your couponing and budgeting isn't getting you there, there's gotta be something more drastic. What about asking for a loan from family?

Ok, I don't understand why no one told you to put it into a decendent IRA. You would have had to take out the required minimum distribution depending on her age but that would have been it.

Did you figure your taxes or someone else? Double check the numbers. Any deductions that might have been missed?

What ever happened with Gabe trying to get back on with the police department? I'm sorry if I missed that. Sounds like he is going to have to take whatever he can to help out.

I am sorry. kat

Even if I had put it in an IRA I would still have to pay the additional taxes on it because I'm not a 'direct beneficiary' which is spouse only. No matter what I had done, I still had to pay the tax. UBS removed taxes from it but not nearly enough apparently.

I have exactly one deduction...Marc..and now he's only getting me $1000 instead of $3000 because he turned 17.

Gabe is still working on the appeal process with POST which is LONG, ARDUOUS, and has a very slim chance of success.

He's already got feelers out and I have been applying all over the place for work at night after my full-time but no place wants to hire me unless I'm available all day, every day even though they are only giving 20 hours. STUPID! UGH!

So......no idea what I'm going to do. It's just in impossible situation anymore.

Oh yeah....the economy is getting better....blah blah blah....BS!

The IRA would still have had her name on it as well as yours as her beneficiary. It would have become your IRA. So you wouldn't had to have paid anything and you would have only had to take out the RMD based on her age. Were you not your Mom's beneficiary? UBS dropped the ball on that one.

Would moving help your financial situation? It may have to become an option. Since you are renting, perhaps an apartment would be cheaper?

I know you want to stay in that school district. No, NEED to stay in that school because of Marc's autism. But rent out a room. Tell the bank you need a short sale. Whatever.

And Marc is 17. Might be time to have him look at getting a part-time job to help pay for his stuff.

And maybe check with an accountant - that doesn't sound right. Especially if you used the IRA to pay her expenses?

Happy Friday.

No news on the job front for Gabe. He's been applying EVERWHERE but no luck so far.

To address the tax issue:

Can't afford an accountant.
Can't even afford the electronic filing fee right now (no, mine isn't free because it's not an EZ form)
Marc can't do school and work at the same time. He's barely passing 4 classes and currently failing 2. A job would add too much stress and time away. School comes first.
I rent and legally can't rent out the other room. It's in my lease. I could have a family member in that room 'helping out' but not someone from outside my family. None of my family needs a room.

Oh well....that being said.....

I'm hoping to stay warm this weekend. The temp is dropping to levels that are cold for here. My house tends to get SUPER cold when the temp drops so it's going to be icky. I see myself doing lots of running in place in the living room to stay warm. grin

What are all of you up to this weekend?
