I too, am actually going to (Christian) church for first time in about 5 years this Sunday (wife and I went together when we first got engaged, but after we got married our work schedules interfered with church schedules and we just stopped going). The only church service I know is catholic (being raised as such), so this will be a whole new experience for me. The first thing I did when I decided to quit drinking was to turn to God and the Bible for guidance. So yes the Lord does work in mysterious ways.

mea culpa. totally missed that.
But IS, you sure do have a lot of conflicts there. First the t's, and now the L's. How small is your town?
Sheesh...

Ok -- I had to take a break from the MB for a while -- WORK is just insane at the end of the semester. Also since I take classes as well, horribly busy.
Several things to update -- I'll try to make it simple. First, I saw a second L who was not as optimistic as the first regarding my rights to S....Remember, the first L couldn't take my case because she knows W in a business environment and referred me to another. This L says she doesn't think I have any chance to even get in court and she says that in her opinion, i am no different than a neighbor helping out with the child in the eyes of the law. WHAT!!!!!!!!!???????? 25, what do you think? these two L's had COMPLETELY diametrically opposed opinions. Now I'm seeing a 3rd next week. I felt so good after the first, now pretty scared again. She said in my state, legally I have no claim.... regardless if I've been there as a coparent his ENTIRE life, went through the ENTIRE adoption process as a couple, etc. etc.. I asked WTF about the best interest of the child?? THIS L said that isn't important unless I have a legal standing.
Ok, so now I'm confused and as I said, a big frightened.... Gonna keep on getting consultations and see what comes out. 25, the case that is pertinent is Mullins v. Picklesimer in 2010. You know my sitch -- my W did NOT biologically bear our S, so it seems that I have even more claim....But I'm no L. How in the he@@ can 2 L's see the same case SOOOOO differently????
Anyway..... this last L told me I'm screwed and have to depend on the mercy of my W to let me see S --- whenever SHE wants, and if she wants to cut me off....she can.
Really????? This consultation was just yesterday, but I'm lining up some more as I said. If you guys see me at the Supreme Court, I'll wave at the DB group

I know the mods don't like links to most places, but this is just to a custody case -- that's all. And for the record, our S does call one of us mama and the other mommy. Our last names are hyphenated, and as I've said, I've been there alongside W since he was 12 hours old.
Here is a link to the case; I don't think this breaks any rules, but if it does, mods I'm sorry. It seems harmless.

All I can say is WOW. I can't see how 2 Ls can have such contrasting opinions. Seems no one cares what's best for children anymore (to include WAS). Keep looking for a L who will fight for you. I would not make any mention of this to your W. Good luck finding the right L!

Yes, 25 -- it's a helluva small place. The county has a population of 100,000 -- the actual town is population of around 30,000. Yep, SMALL TOWN life. Conflicts -- everyone knows all the business.

Hi In Shock, I have been reading through your posts and I just thought that I would put my two cents in. I am no attorney, but I have been faced with discrimination which seems to be what you are going through right now.
I would try not to let what the attorney you spoke with today get you to worked up. Depending on what state you live in there is no doubt about it that this is not going to be a cookie cutter case, but it also does not mean that you have no rights to your son. You are going to have to dig deeper than most people to find an attorney. I think I would be looking for someone that was familiar with glbt adoption...
For your sake I hope that you don't end up at the Supreme Court, but I wish there were more people out there like you that were willing to fight for their rights.
