I learned many years ago in my brief career in law enforcement, if a situation doesn't feel right, don't walk into it! Strangely enough, last week I was meeting with a client, a convicted sex offender, and he naturally claims he was innocent of any wrong doing (I've yet to meet one who says "yeah, I did it, my bad"). I looked at him and said "I've been in this business a long time and I've learned that where there's smoke there's fire and you've got enough smoke coming from you to be a forest fire!" So, with the bookkeeper, I'd rather be cautious and if that bothers her, too bad. I'm not walking into something blind just 'coz I see a pretty face especially when I've got those caution lights flashing. She was going on about "open communication" and the need for "honesty", so here's her chance to walk the walk! If not there's always that harem of Asian Social Workers out there waiting lol.
