reading a book now from a guy by the name of brian tracy called, "eat that frog"
brian tracy is one of america's leading authorities on the development of human potential and personal effectiveness.
this book details 21 practical and doable steps that will help stop procrastination and get more of the important tasks done. this may sound silly as to be the topic of my next thread, but as i have mentioned many times over the last few posts, 2004 is gonna be MY year (yes yes, and everyone else's here too!) and you will understand why i am doing this as time progresses
brian tracy says that there is an old saying that if the first thing you do each morning is to eat a live frog, you'll have the satisfaction of knowing that's it's probably the worst thing you'll do all day
my life is so totally disorganized, and so naturally is overwhelming as well. from personal to emotional to physical - all my needs are not being met, and it's become painfully clear to me that it's been because of how much i don't take care of me. well that is about to change
i have many goals for 2004 - goals i am about to set forth as journaling in my upcoming threads
i have decided to place my focus on me, and not on my sitch. i am moving forward, getting on with my life. i would love for hubby to be a part of that but i am letting go. i have to in order to make me a better person - i have come to painful realizations about myself over the last few months, but i am MOVING FORWARD cause living in the past does NOTHING
i will be sharing over the next several days the steps that is outlined in this book. hopefully you all will get as much benefit from these as i have, and together we can all make 2004 our year - you will notice as i post the different steps, how closely they resemble the db principles, and you do not have to apply these steps just to becoming organized, but becoming a better person who has their CRAP together
Brian Tracy - Eat That Frog - 21 Great Ways to Stop Procrastinating and Get More Done in Less Time
Step 1 - SET THE TABLE
There is one quality that one must possess to win, and that is definiteness of purpose, the knowledge of what one wants and a burning desire to achieve it - Napoleon Hill
•Here is a great rule for success: Think on paper
• only about 3 percent of adults have clear, written goals. these people accomplish five and ten times as much as people of equal or better education and ability but who, for whatever reason, have never taken the time to write out exactly what it is they want
•Step One - Decide exactly what you want •Step Two - Write it down •Step Three - Set a deadline on your goal •Step Four - Make a list of everything that you can think of that you are going to have to do to achieve your goal •Step Five - Organize the list into a plan •Step Six - Take action on your plan immediately •Step Seven - Resolve to do something every single day that moves you twoard your major goal
ASSIGNMENT - EAT THAT FROG
take a clean sheet of paper right now and make a list of ten goals you want to accomplish in the next year. write your goals as though a year has already passes and they are now a reality. use the present tense, positive, and first person so that they are immediately accepted by your subconscious mind.
for example, you would write. "i earn x number of dollars per year" or "i weight x number of pounds" or "i drive such and such a car."
then, go back over your list of ten goals and select the one goal that, if you achieved it, would have the greatest positive impact on your life. whatever that goal is, write it on a separate sheet of paper, set a deadline, make a plan, take action on your plan, and then do something every single day that moves you toward that goal. this exercise alone could change your life
I am with you on this - I knew it before (I mean I have read it before - somewhere in the book entitled roughly "Seven Secrets of Highly Successful People" - something like that ! I just never DO it. I am willing to give it a shot, if others do, and are willling to talk about it, - that is a thread on it's own, and a support group too.
dang people, i didn't think this would get THIS much feedback so quick!!!
