While I respect your desire to stand, I also would encourage you to consider that you may not--probably don't--know your X any more.

I haven't had a real conversation w/my X in probably 5 years. I don't know what he has experienced during these times. I have some vague ideas is all.

Your X is not the person you remember. She may emerge better. She may not.

Now I think about this. If I broke up w/someone and they persisted in hanging around, I am not sure that I would find that person ATTRACTIVE.
