JB, I am hijacking your thread for this post, hope you don’t mind. I suspect from your posts you are somewhere near the SW corner of the state. Since you like road trips I thought I’d suggest a couple of places to take your S. I’ll leave the Rock Hall, GL Science Center, William H Mathers, USS Cod, and Cedar Point off the list…guess I did not.

Closer to you and something I found fascinating as a child is the Air Force museum at Wright Patterson AFB. Two major things going for it as a destination in the next few months, it is 99.98% enclosed so weather is not a factor, it is free. You can choose to pay for an audio tour with headsets if you like. For my family it was a long day trip. We camped nearby to spend the day.

For good weather and outdoors there are the Indian mounds nearby, Serpent is the most famous it burns an hour or so on the way to something else. Off 71 is Fort Ancient, it is a defensive works atop a hill. The hike up and around burns a couple of hours, it might be a little strenuous for a little guy. The Hopewell settlement near Chillicothe makes an interesting stop. Near Lake Hope SP in Zalenski forest are a couple of partially restored open hearth furnaces from when the area produced iron for cannon.

South if you like air shows and fireworks is Thunder over Louisville in mid April. I have never been disappointed by the fireworks display, even when it was cold wet and raining. South further is Mammoth Caves SP worth a couple days of exploring, book tours in advance. Not to far from there is the bourbon trail b/c it is all Karst country. Not exactly little guy material though.

Just some different thoughts for future reference, sometimes we get wrapped up with the drama and we forget to plan futures. Not too long ago both of my adult children reminded me the times they got the most from our relationship growing up were the quiet simple moments when a life lesson was shared, sometimes unintentionally.

Oh and my cousin recently returned from a mission to Belize. He said it was a life altering experience, never having seen that level of poverty up close and personal.
