I understand a lot of people's reservations against FB. In some ways, that's why I joined, to reconnect with people I once knew. It's funny, a lot of the people I grew up with joined right around their 40th birthdays (I joined on mine), some sort of trigger perhaps.
In my case, I use it as a type of positive PR, not just for W, but for all my friends in general. It also lets me act like my 'goofy' self in front of people who know me where I feel comfortable. So, in my case it works, YMMV.
