BITS need some help or feedback.

So it looks like i am gonna soon have a big problem with my car. It is close to 150k. Now my FIL is good car mechanic and knows lots of good people. He also offered last week to help get the car fixed if needed.

Knowing the relationship i have with my wife right now, would be bad if i sought his help?. I was planning on asking him to see if he could get it fixed. I take care of the costs.

Don't know any car mechanics in my town. I know i'll get ripped off if i take it to the dealer.
