Hugs can be giving as well as taking. Ever been in a situation where someone wanted to hug you and you thought " I can't stand to be touched, I've had enough!" That's when a hug takes from you.
Next time you feel the need to hug. Ask. People want to be touched only with their permission, especially here in North America. Be very clear that the hug you offer is one of giving, not taking.
