If it's about the kids, respond within the hour, but be the one to end the exchange.
If it's not pertaining to the kids, I'd recommend ignoring it, or at least until later that night or something and then reply with a "Sorry, just saw this -- been a busy day! Glad to hear you're having fun!" ... or some such.
