IMO you gave her a reason to blame you here. It should have stopped at 'for the kids sake' in your first statement.

Try to think about what will bring you closer to your goal. Is calling her a jerk and saying its none of her business do that?

I'd suggest still going for the kids, been there in that sitch too. Try though not to talk to family members about the sitch tho, never know how it can be used against you later. Dou you want to be right or happy?
