Your H sounds very, very confused. Definitely is crisis mode and has been for years it sounds like. Has he had any kind of counseling for the abuse he endured as a child? I believe that the fact that he is at the age his father was when he died is very significant.
Have you read the Divorce Rememdy book? That is a good place to start.
