my Dad had the operation yesterday to insert a G tube which would get him off the feeding machine, it was unsuccessful. They couldn't get the tube in due to blockages. He was quite upset yesterday as he had hoped this would bring him one step closer to going home for a bit before the end. It didn't work out. Today the doctor will be in to discuss what is next, there may be nothing. What do you say when your Dad says "everything will turn out OK, right?" I said "It will turn out Dad, one way or the other." I assured him that no matter what we'd all be here with him. Life goes on.
There just has to some way for him to get home. My grandmother was lucky in that my oldest aunt is a nurse. They also brought in hospice. She was able to be at home when she passed. She came home from the hopsital on Thursday and passed away on Monday, Sept. 6, which was labor day that year.

I went to see Dad last night and we had a good hour talk. I held his hand and let the tears just flow down my cheeks. Dad said "we have to be true to ourselves, when we want to cry, we cry. When we want to laugh, we laugh" Probably just seeing my tears and holding my hand reminded him of how much he's loved. We talked about death and I told him about a thought I'd had during the day. When a loving father says to his child "I'm taking you on a trip and where it is will be a surprise" children get excited, they don't sit and fret and worry about where Dad is taking them, they get excited! Why? Because they love and trust their father and believe that he would never take them somewhere harmful. If we trust our Father in Heaven then maybe we don't need to be worried or frightened either because we believe He'll never take us anywhere that is harmful. Just a thought, easier said than done! Now, as far as Dad's situation, the doctor said that they were not going to do anything else. He did say it might be possible for Dad to go home for a day visit, we'll have to see. When I left I noticed a picture in the newspaper of a racoon hanging from a steering wheel, I showed it to Dad and he said "I think that's your brothers SUV", my brother had a coon living in his SUV because he hadn't moved it for a long while...that's another story. Dad and I just broke out into laughter together, a nice way to end our visit. Anyway, life goes on.
That was a lovely way of looking at our journey to see our Heavenly Father! Thank you so much for sharing it.

Sure wish I could swallow it myself though! As my wife said, when I shared this thought with her (wife, the kids and I all go together on Saturdays to see my Dad), "our earthly Dad's are right there in front of us every day, we can see them and touch them but God isn't there in that same way so it's harder for us to trust in that journey" Damn her!!! Anyway, I'm not going to see Dad tonight as my oldest is out with her bf and I don't want to leave the youngest alone here. D's bf gave her a handmade card and inside he has drawn a cow who is saying "You should love Dave, his jokes suck as$ but he has a big heart", that romantic little devil So, that's my day. OMG, it's Valentine's Day and I haven't bought myself anything...better get to the variety store ASAP or I'll be sleeping alone tonight!
