I guess I would say that forgiveness is a term that's thrown around a lot but nobody talks about how to do it.

Do I forgive X? I guess I do. I feel that something happened to him. Maybe someday I will understand what that was.

I would add, though, that that doesn't mean I LIKE him any more.
